- 300g tteok (Korean rice cakes, can use frozen)
- 100g shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3 tbsp Sauce: gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 tbsp Korean sweet soy sauce (or regular sweet soy sauce)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 400ml water or stock
- 2 clove garlic, minced
- 2 sheets Extras: eomuk (Korean fish cake), cut into triangles
- 2 stalks green onion, cut into 4cm (1.5-inch) pieces
- 1 boiled egg
- Toasted sesame seeds

👩🍳 Instructions
- 1 If using frozen tteok, soak in water for 10 minutes, then drain
- 2 Bring the water/stock to a boil in a wide skillet
- 3 Add the gochujang, sweet soy sauce, sugar, soy sauce, and garlic
- 4 Stir until the sauce is well combined
- 5 Add the tteok and eomuk
- 6 Cook over medium heat for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally
- 7 The sauce will thicken and coat the tteok
- 8 Add the green onion and stir
- 9 If adding cheese: transfer to a heatproof dish
- 10 Sprinkle mozzarella on top
- 11 Torch it or bake at 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes until the cheese melts and bubbles
- 12 Place the halved boiled egg on top
- 13 Sprinkle with sesame seeds
- 14 Serve hot while the cheese is still stretchy
💡 Tips
• Frozen tteok is now easy to find at supermarkets or online
• You can substitute gochujang with chili sauce mixed with brown sugar in a pinch
• Selling tteokbokki at a bazaar or booth: cost about Rp 8,000 per serving, sell for Rp 22,000-28,000
