- 3 tbsp sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 2 tbsp salty soy sauce (kecap asin)
- 1 tbsp honey
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- Liquid smoke 1 tsp (optional)
- Sambal lu'at (roasted chili sambal): 10 bird's eye chilies

👩🍳 Instructions
- 1 Sei sapi (smoked beef): mix together all the marinade ingredients
- 2 Coat the whole piece of beef with the marinade and let it rest in the fridge for at least 4 hours (overnight is ideal)
- 3 Grill the beef on a grill pan or bake in the oven at 180°C (350°F) for 25-30 minutes
- 4 Turn occasionally and baste with the remaining marinade
- 5 Let it rest for 10 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain
- 6 Sambal lu'at (roasted chili sambal): char the chilies, shallots, garlic, and tomatoes in a dry non-stick pan until slightly blackened
- 7 Coarsely crush all the roasted ingredients, then add lime juice and salt
- 8 Assemble the rice bowl: place warm rice in a bowl or box
- 9 Arrange the sliced sei sapi on top
- 10 Add the sambal lu'at on the side
- 11 Top with basil leaves, cucumber, and fried shallots
